1. Personalized Email Counseling and Support—I’ve reviewed a lot of health-related eBooks and I’ve never seen this feature. The author, Mike Walden, gives readers a real email address and offers counseling and support. I never took him up on this offer so I can’t honestly say how responsive he is. But from the testimonials I’ve seen and the fact that the book is the #1 acne eBook year in and year out, I would have to think readers are satisfied with the system and the support.
2. It works—That’s what it’s all about right? I am naturally oily-skinned, and have thus rarely been completely acne-free, even beyond my adolescent years. So trying the system was not just to develop a review of Acne No More, it was to see if it actually worked. I followed the steps (ok, most of them–I cheated a little) and even kept a journal. By the end of a couple of months, I was actually acne-free. My acne has generally been mild in nature, so I can’t say from personal experience how the system would work for more severe cases. The author, however, claims that the Acne No More system works for an assortment of acne conditions with varying degrees of severity, and based on my experience, this seems to be a trustworthy claim.
3. Comprehensive—Acne No More is often referred to as the “Acne Bible.” If you read through it all, you will have learned a great deal about the inner workings of the body and how a holistic approach to treatment benefits not only acne, but countless other conditions such as diabetes, heart disease and anxiety. I followed a recommended strategy (taking a particular nutritional supplement found in health and vitamin stores) to get rid of parasites in my body (who know they were so common?) There’s also a couple of do-it-yourself home tests that I thought were useful. One is for food allergies while the other determines if you have a condition known as candida. This is a condition that is recognized by many complementary and alternative medicine practitioners and is caused by an overgrowth of certain yeasts in the intestinal tract.

Acne No More Review | Negatives 

1. Navigation—The first time I read through the book, I found the layout to be a bit confusing. But I realized that the author followed a pattern of giving an outlined overview then go into more details later. After navigating around, I figured out how to move smoothly through the process, but I think a slight redesign might help make the process more clear the first time through.
2. Dietary adjustments—The dietary requirements will require some degree of adjustment for people who eat a typical western diet. I generally eat a pretty healthy diet, but I still found myself needing to branch out from my usual grocery lists. In the end, it’s the same as many diets—if you want results, you have to get out of your comfort zone. Having said that, the dietary changes do require discipline, so if you are wanting a solution that will work with your current diet, the Acne No More method is not for you.
3. Information Overload? As mentioned, the guide is 223 pages and it is not a quick read. Although I found it fascinating and informative, towards the end I was ready to be finished reading so that I could begin implementing the strategies!

Chamomile Tea: A natural anti-inflammatory, chamomile can significantly reduce acne flare-ups. Saw Palmetto: This herb is showing promise as a natural treatment for acne. There are no definitive research studies, but researchers have discovered enough anecdotal evidence to continue looking into saw palmetto’s ability to considerably improve acne cases.

Strawberries: are good options as natural home remedies for acne because they are a natural source of salicylic acid, an ingredient found in many commercial acne creams. To make a facial mask, mix 1/2 cup of pureed strawberries  with a tablespoon of sour cream and use weekly. You can also cut a strawberry in half and rub it directly on  your face for a few minutes to get a similar benefit.

Colloidal oatmeal: (Rolled oats that have been milled into a fine powder). To make colloidal oatmeal, grind rolled oats using a coffee mill or grinder. Acupuncture

And while it is different from some of the other home remedies for acne we include, (it’s usually not performed in the home) it is still a natural and holistic method of treatment. Early studies indicated acupuncture was 90% to 98% effective in treating acne.

There is a lot of information on the web concerning acne scar home remedies, but not all of it is trustworthy. As a health writer, I look for accurate, reliable sources for information. From my research, here is a list of things to avoid:

Popping, squeezing and picking

You’ve probably been advised to avoid picking at acne numerous times, but it is advice worth noting. As previously mentioned, scars are a result of injury. Squeezing and pooping acne causes even more damage, resulting in worse or additional acne scarring. According to Ron Moy, a professor of dermatology at UCLA, these actions also cause bacteria to infiltrate deeper into the skin, with the consequence of more collagen damage.

Vitamin E

Many of the web articles you read tout the use of topical Vitamin E among the recommended home remedies for acne scars. However, a recent University of Miami study revealed that 90% of the study participants experienced no effect or a worsening of their condition. Moreover, 33% developed skin irritation from this treatment.

Sun

Many people try to “dry up” acne symtoms by soaking in sun rays. But the sun stimulates particular cells that produce pigment, which darkens acne scars and hinders the healing process. The best bet is to use an effective sunscreen to protect your scar and the rest of your skin.

Alpha Lipoic Acid  

This is a nutritional substance with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Nicholas Perricone, a noted dermatologist, recommends alpha lipoic acid (ALA) as a natural treatment for acne, and suggests it as an answer to the question of how to prevent acne scars. Though there is a long technical explanation, suffice it to say that ALA prevents collagen from being gobbled up by enzymes, which in turn prevents acne scarring, according to Perricone. Only small amounts of ALA is present in foods. But it is readily available as an over-the-counter supplement in department stores, drugstores, and health shoppes.

The standard advice above regarding not picking, squeezing and popping acne lesions also applies as an effective scar prevention technique.

The plugs are filled with an oily secretion known as sebum, as well as keratin and dead, sloughed-off cells. For existing blackheads, there are two products commonly found in over-the-counter acne treatments that are useful in treating blackheads: benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid. Benzoyl peroxide has antibacterial properties and helps to dry up oily sebum in skin cells. Salicylic acid is a good exfoliant, removing dead skin cells before they can combine with sebum to plug pores. As you can see, the products work well together to address the causes of blackheads—sebum and dead skin cells.

One commercial product that I’ve been using lately with good success is Neutrogena’s Pink Grapefruit Face Scrub. It has salicylic acid and grapefruit extract, so it is really refreshing. It does a good job of gently removing dead skin cells, oil and dirt, which helps to both prevent and get rid of blackheads and other forms of acne.

Home Remedies For Blackheads | Even More! (Well, Kind Of)

It’s not technically among the blackhead home remedies, but if you are someone who goes to a dermatologist or spa, the doctor or esthetician can perform various treatments to cleanse and treat your skin. One tool that can be used is a blackhead removal tool or comedone extractor. This is a small metal device with metal loops on either end. Some blackhead removal tools also feature a small lance on one end.

You can also find these tools in beauty shops or online stores like Amazon if you want to use them yourself in conjunction with other home remedies for blackheads on the nose or anywhere else for that matter. However, many skincare specialists advise against using these tools on your own because you can cause a scar or damage the skin in other ways if you do not use correct procedures. The same goes for picking and squeezing the blackhead.

Cystic acne is categorized by two features: nodules and cysts. Nodules are hard lumps located under the surface of the skin. These lumps are often larger than pimples and can be painful and last for months. Cysts are similar to nodules but are filled with pus. They are also often painful.

Cystic acne can affect anyone, but teenagers, young adults and menopausal women are the most affected. The fluctuating hormones experienced during pregnancy also tend to produce the condition. The degree of the condition will vary among each person, as will the type of home remedies for cystic acne required.

Causes of Cystic Acne

What causes cystic acne? This form of acne has the same causes as the milder, garden-variety acne—it’s the overactive oil glands and excess dead skin cells within the hair follicles, mixed with a large number of bacteria feeding on it all that creates the trouble. The follicle wall ruptures (the blemishes appear due to this) and the infected content spreads into the dermis, infecting adjoining follicles and causing the nodules to develop.

It is better if this rupture occurs near the skin surface—it will more likely be a minor blemish that tends to heal faster. The deeper the rupture, the more damage will occur. Acne During Pregnancy: Do’s

Your first step is to talk to your physician about your options for dealing with acne during pregnancy. With that said, let’s move on with some tips considered to be safe acne treatment during pregnancy:

• Exercise proper hygiene
• Wash your face with mild cleansers; use soft washcloths or your hands
• Shampoo daily if you have oily hair
• Keep your hands away from your face as much as possible—hands can trap oil, sweat and dirt, which blocks pores

• Eat a diet that promotes clear skin: “The Clear Skin Prescription” by Nicholas Perricone, M.D., is a good reference book
• Read the labels on your makeup: The term you are looking for is ”noncomedogenic.” This means that the makeup will not clog your pores and cause acne. Also, make sure to wash off your makeup before going to sleep
• Be careful even with over-the-counter creams and gels. Benzoyl peroxide is a common ingredient in acne treatments that is considered by some to be a safe acne treatment during pregnancy. But Lawrence E. Gibson, a Mayo Clinic Dermatologist, advocates caution regarding how to treat acne during pregnancy. He points out that even topical medication can enter your bloodstream, and while there are no known problems with benzoyl peroxide, there is little research on the safety of its use during pregnancy. You should also be mindful that over-the-counter medications contain a myriad of other ingredients, not all of which are considered safe for pregnant women.

Acne During Pregnancy: Dont’s

• Don’t take prescription medications unless ordered by your doctor. One popular acne medication—Accutane—can cause severe birth defects, miscarriage or premature death, according to the FDA (Federal Food and Drug Administration). Antibiotics like minocycline can potentially cause fetus abnormalities.
• Don’t eat greasy, oily foods (see above regarding dietary strategies)
• Don’t pop or squeeze pimples: this could worsen the symptoms and cause scarring
